Smoke smelled at Rainbows United

WICHITA — Someone noticed the smell of smoke at the Rainbows United main office downtown this morning, and firefighters were trying to determine the source, Battalion Chief Tom Carney said.

Fire crews responded to Rainbows, 340 S. Broadway, after the smell was reported at 8:19 a.m. No injuries were reported, Carney said.

There were few staff members — and no children — inside at the time of the emergency call, said Debbie Mai, Rainbows vice president of programs and services.

Rainbows works with special-needs children.
