Two charged with murder after shooting death of store clerk

Murder charges were filed Sunday against two men for the shooting death of a convenience store clerk on East 12th Street this weekend.

Travis L. Knott, 19, and Clifford V. Jackson, 20, both of Kansas City, were being held Sunday in the Kansas City Jail, each on one count of second-degree murder, two counts of aggravated criminal action and first-degree robbery.

A convenience-store clerk and his brother were working in the store in the 3400 block of East 12th Street around 11 a.m. on Saturday when two men came in and demanded money at gunpoint.

The store clerk and his brother chased the robbers from the store. During the chase one of the brothers was shot by the gunmen. He died shortly after reaching a hospital.

The names of the victims were not available. Police said that because the victims are natives of Honduras, their identity remains unclear.
