KU's Lied Center plans expansion

LAWRENCE | Officials with the Lied Center at the University of Kansas are planning to expand and renovate the center.

A $2.5 million gift from the Lied Foundation will be used to expand the performing arts center's lobby, build an education pavilion, add office space and install of historical displays.

Tim Van Leer, executive director of the Lied Center, said the expansions would allow the center to pursue new programs.

Van Leer says the Lied Center would remain open during construction. Tentative plans is for construction to begin in the spring and be completed by 2011.

The plans will be submitted to the Kansas Board of Regents at its Oct. 14 and 15 meeting.
