Shotgun pellets pepper three children

Shotgun pellets struck three children as they were getting out of a car at their Northeast area home Wednesday night.

The children, ages 9, 12, and 14, suffered graze wounds and were checked out at Children’s Mercy Hospital. A 45-year-old woman who had been driving the car was not hit.

A neighbor saw two suspects get out of a car with a shotgun about 9 p.m. in the 300 block of North Quincy Avenue. One of the suspects fired the shotgun about four times, and the suspects got back in the car and sped away.

The 9-year-old boy suffered a welt on the left side of his head. A 14-year-old boy suffered a welt on his lower back. A 12-year-old girl suffered a welt above her left ear.
