Police think suspect in battery case is barricaded inside KC house

Kansas City police late Tuesday surrounded a house where they thought a fugitive had barricaded himself inside.

Police detectives said they thought that a 19-year-old man who was wanted for two counts of aggravated battery was inside the house in the 4300 block of Monroe Avenue, said Capt. Rich Lockhart, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.

When the detectives approached the house around 8:20 p.m., someone turned off the lights and locked the door. A tactical team was sent to the scene after the detectives received no response from inside.

Negotiators used a loud speaker, while other officers sought a search warrant for the house.
