KCK church youth leader charged with soliciting a child

A Kansas City, Kan., church youth leader who served prison time for molesting children is accused of taking indecent liberties with a child from his church.

Forty-year-old Michael Joy was arrested at the church Friday and was charged Tuesday with one count of aggravated indecent solicitation of a minor. It was unclear if he had a lawyer.

Stony Point Baptist Church pastor Thomas Hamilton says Joy admitted to him four years ago that he had been in prison but lied about why he was there.

Hamilton said he searched a sex offender registry looking for Joy's name or address but found nothing.

The Kansas Department of Corrections Web site shows Joy was convicted of eight counts of molesting children in the late 1980s and spent more than eight years in prison.
