Police say a standoff ended peacefully early today in the vicinity of 6th and Hardesty on Kansas City's east side.
The incident began at about 7 p.m. Thursday when shots were fired near 6th and Hardesty, police said. When officers arrived they found a 26-year-old man wounded. He was taken to an area hospital where he was reported in critical condition.
Witnesses at the scene told police that the victim and another man had been arguing and shots were fired. They also said the shooter had gone into a house near the shooting scene.
Police tried to contact the shooter at the house, then called an Operation 100 when the man refused to answer the door. Negotiators contacted people inside the house and eventually eight people left the residence. Investigators were interviewing those people to find out what may have occurred before the shooting.
The Operation 100 was ended at 12:10 a.m.
