Two charged with murder in Missouri fire linked to meth, heat gun

JEFFERSON CITY | Two mid-Missourians have been charged with murder after a deadly blaze in a two-story building in Linn.

The Jefferson City News-Tribune reported Friday that prosecutors in Osage County charged 34-year-olds Lisa R. Willer and John R. Tharp with second-degree murder and first-degree arson. Twenty-year-old Daniel Mittenburg, who also lived in the building, died from smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were called to the blaze late Wednesday. Police on Thursday found a glass jar with methamphetamine in a room shared by Willer and Tharp.

According to police, Willer said the fire started when Tharp tried to make meth by aiming a heat gun at a plastic pitcher. The pitcher melted and a substance inside caught fire.
