A Geuda Springs man is scheduled to make his first appearance today in Sumner County District Court to face possible charges in connection with an alcohol-related traffic fatality on Saturday.
Patrick R. Burr, 19, was arrested and booked into the Sumner County Jail on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, driving under the influence, failure to yield and transporting an open container.
The charges stem from a two-vehicle crash in Sumner County that killed a passenger in his vehicle, 19-year-old Brayden Popplewell.
The crash was reported at about 11:50 p.m. Saturday. It occurred on South Oliver Road, about four miles south of U.S. 160 and nine miles southeast of Wellington, according to the Sumner County Sheriff's Office.
Sumner County Sheriff Gerald Gilkey said that Burr, driving a 2007 Dodge truck, failed to yield and collided with a 2000 Mercury that was southbound on Oliver.
The vehicle Burr was driving had four passengers, all friends; the Mercury had a driver and a passenger.
Several people suffered injuries, and were treated, Gilkey said. Popplewell was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
The incident remains under investigation, Gilkey said. No other arrests have been made.
