Immigrant pleads guilty in Kansas smuggling case

WICHITA | A Mexican man accused of smuggling 12 illegal immigrants into Kansas from Arizona has pleaded guilty to illegal re-entry and human smuggling charges.

Jorge Elizalde-Juarez entered the plea Thursday in U.S. District Court in Wichita. A plea agreement with prosecutors calls for a 14-month sentence.

Court records show Elizalde-Juarez has been deported seven times, including three times since April.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brent Anderson said if Elizalde-Juarez is caught again in the United States after he serves the sentence, he could get as much as four years in prison.
