Kansas National Guard opens new facilities

SALINA, Kan. | Piece by piece, building by building, the Kansas National Guard is expanding its presence in the central part of the state.

Dedication ceremonies were scheduled Thursday for the two newest additions to the sprawling Great Plains Joint Training Center near Salina.

The Kansas Air National Guard's 284th Air Support Operations Squadron will be formally put in place with the dedication of its headquarters building. The squadron works with Army units to coordinate support for ground operations.

A ribbon-cutting is also set for “Crisis City.” The venue offers a realistic setting for emergency response training for such events as chemical spills and fires.
