Wichita man arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty

WICHITA — A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of felony cruelty to an animal, police said.

The suspect's live-in girlfriend reported to police that he picked up her dog, named Autumn, and slammed it onto the kitchen floor of her apartment at about 11:30 p.m. Monday in the 8800 block of East Harry.

He then chased the dog around the apartment, pulling on its tail, and then picked it up and slammed it onto the floor a second time, police said.

The dog suffered a bruised ear, bruised eye and broken right femur, police said, and was taken to a veterinary hospital's emergency room for treatment. The animal is expected to survive.
