Suspect arrested in 1976 Columbia murder

COLUMBIA | The Columbia police department says a suspect in a 1976 murder has been arrested in Georgia.

The department says in a news release that it was notified Monday that 65-year-old Johnny Wright had been arrested in the Aug. 7, 1976, death of 23-year-old Rebecca A. Doisy.

Doisy was a waitress at a Columbia steakhouse when she disappeared on Aug. 5, 1976. She was reported missing two days later.

Police had issued a warrant for Wright in 1985 but he was not arrested until Sept. 23. Details of his arrest or how he was found were not immediately released.

Wright is in custody in Lawrenceville, Ga., on $100,000 bond.
