A 25-year-old man is the latest traffic fatality in Wichita, after he crashed his motorcycle early this morning on the west side of the city.
A witness told police he watched the man race by just after 3:30 a.m. in the 9400 block of West 12th Street, southwest of 13th and Tyler.
The motorcycle then hit the curb where 12th curves to the north. The motorcycle rolled several times, ejecting the rider.
He was found in the front yard of a house and pronounced dead at the scene. Police identified him as Zachariah Z. Burkes of Wichita.
Police are investigating to see whether alcohol played a role in the incident. Burkes was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The incident raises the number of traffic fatalities in Wichita this year to 17, and the number of motorcycle riders killed in accidents to six.
