Charges filed against owners of alleged Missouri puppy mill

SPRINGFIELD | Prosecutors have charged the owners of an alleged puppy mill in Pleasant Hope with felonies, and more charges are expected.

Greene County prosecutors on Tuesday charged 48-year-old Carold H. Cruse and his wife, 49-year-old Rebecca, with three felony counts of animal abuse of three Yorkshire terriers. The three dogs were euthanized after authorities searched the couple's kennel on Feb. 13.

Assistant Greene County Prosecutor Kristen Tuohy says prosecutors will file 40 more misdemeanor animal abuse counts against each defendant because of other Yorkies found at the kennel. Investigators found 93 Yorkshire terriers during the raid.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that court documents allege the Cruses kept dogs in their kennels, and did not groom, properly feed or clean up after them.
