Kansas City police are investigating two fatal traffic crashes this morning.
The first occurred just before 2 a.m. today at Independence and Bales avenues. The driver of one vehicle with several occupants lost control while traveling west on Independence and struck a wooden utility pole, according to accident investigators.
One person died after being ejected from the vehicle. Several others were being treated for injuries at hospitals, but their conditions are not available.
Some witnesses told police that another vehicle appeared to have been traveling alongside the vehicle that crashed, and investigators are trying to determine whether there was some sort of altercation or road rage situation involved.
The second fatality occurred about 5:20 a.m. today on Interstate 70 at Prospect Avenue.
One car was heading the wrong way in the highway's westbound lanes when it collided head-on with another vehicle, police said.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was killed, and the driver of the other vehicle was seriously hurt and taken to a hospital.
