Missouri health chief urges swine flu vaccination

ST. LOUIS | The swine flu vaccine is in the final stages of testing, and Missouri's top health official says getting vaccinated is the best way to avoid the illness.

Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services director Margaret Donnelly spoke Monday at Saint Louis University's Center for Vaccine Development, one of eight sites hosting clinical trials for the new H1N1 vaccine.

Donnelly encourages vaccination against not only the swine flu but the seasonal flu virus expected to emerge later this fall. She urged Missourians — especially those 65 and older — to immediately get the seasonal flu vaccine that is already available.

The swine flu vaccine is expected to be available by mid-October.
