Liberty man charged in death of pedestrian in Northland

A 23-year-old Liberty man has been charged in the death of a man in Northmoor early Sunday.

Platte County prosecutors have charged Jack Martin with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with death or injuries involved, said Leroy Williams, a detective with the Northmoor police department.

The incident occurred at about 2 a.m. on Sunday on Vivion Road at Northwest Frontier Street. The Missouri Highway Patrol arrested Martin about an hour later.

Martin is being held in the Platte County detention center under $25,000 bond, said Williams.

Apparently several people were fighting before Martin got into a Jeep Grand Cherokee and allegedly ran into four people standing on the roadside.

Further charges may be issued on another individual in the incident, said Williams, who on Monday was still interviewing witnesses and others involved.

Northmoor is a small community just northeast of Riverside.
