Wrong Larry: Man jailed after fight outside motel

A 51-year-old man is in jail because he thought two people outside his North Broadway motel were talking about him early Thursday morning, police said.

A 23-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were talking about a man named Larry in the parking lot of a motel in the 1200 block of North Broadway at about 7:15 a.m. Thursday.

A tenant in one of the rooms whose name is Larry overheard them and thought they were talking about him.

He went outside and began fighting with the man in the parking lot, police said. The men exchanged punches before Larry pulled out a knife and cut the young man in the abdomen.

He then returned to his room, where he was later arrested. The victim was treated at the scene but declined a trip to the hospital.

Police said the two people in the parking lot told them they were talking about a different Larry — not the one in the motel room.
