The Chiefs today released veteran defensive end Alfonso Boone, a former starter.
Boone began training camp as the starter at left defensive end but eventually relinquished his spot to Tyson Jackson, the Chiefs' first-round draft pick. Boone was the one squeezed out after the Chiefs drafted Jackson and Alex Magee with their first two picks this year and moved Glenn Dorsey to tackle.
Boone was a full-time starter for the Chiefs in 2007, his first season with the Chiefs, and a part-timer starter last year.
The Chiefs must trim their roster from 80 players to 75 later today.
