Motorcyclist killed after fleeing police is identified

A motorcyclist killed Saturday while attempting to flee from police has been identified as Thomas Maurice Ozborne of Kansas City, Kan.

Ozborne, 31, died when his motorcycle popped a wheelie and collided with a van at 31st Street and Southwest Boulevard, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. A 38-year-old woman who was driving the van was also injured and taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday, a Kansas City, Kan., police officer tried to pull Ozborne over for a traffic violation near 10th Street and Rosedale Drive. The cyclist sped off and the officer began a chase, but nearing the state line the officer backed off, according to police.

The bike sped into the intersection and hit the van as it was turning from Southwest Boulevard onto 31st Street, according to the patrol.
