Dozens arrested at two sobriety checkpoints

Police in Kansas City and Overland Park staged separate sobriety checkpoints last night.

Kansas City police stopped 494 southbound vehicles on Ward Parkway at 56th Street from 11 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. today. Officers arrested eight drivers for suspicion of driving under the influence. Officers also made one arrest for possession of marijuana, two for hazardous moving violations, three for other traffic violations and six for outstanding Kansas City warrants.

Police in Overland Park stopped 354 vehicles at 115th Street and Metcalf Avenue in a separate checkpoint. Officers tested 56 drivers for impairment and arrested 14 of them. Police also made two drug arrests, three for open alcohol container violations and two for fleeing and eluding.
