LAWRENCE | The Lawrence City Commission has approved plans to spend up to $2.4 million to repair the Bowersock Dam on the Kansas River.
Commissioners also voted Tuesday to award the work to L.G. Barcus & Sons Inc.
Federal regulators have said the dam, which is more than 100 years old, is leaking badly.
The city depends on the dam to keep river levels high enough for the Kaw Water Treatment plant to operate efficiently, although the dam is owned by the Bowersock Mills & Power Company.
