A man was fighting for his life early Wednesday after being hit by a truck Tuesday night in Kansas City.
The man was walking west on East 55th Street near Skiles Avenue when the truck, also westbound, hit him, launching him off the road into overgrown weeds, said Sgt. Bill Mahoney of the Kansas City Police Department.
A person living nearby heard the impact and called 911 just before 9:20 p.m.
The driver continued westbound but then turned his vehicle around to check on the injured man. He will not be charged, Mahoney said.
Police took the driver into custody and were investigating whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. They also were trying to identify the victim.
