Wichita motorcyclist killed in accident identified

WICHITA — Wichita police today named the motorcyclist who died in an accident Friday night and released more information about the incident.

Police identified the victim as Carl G. Terrell, 36, of Wichita.

His death is Wichita's 14th traffic fatality of 2009.

The motorcycle's speed was a factor in the accident, which occurred shortly after 10 p.m. in the 2200 block of North Kansas, said police spokesman Gordon Bassham.

The collision involved a Chevrolet Monte Carlo and a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle.

Witnesses saw the motorcycle going south on Kansas "at a high rate of speed" when a northbound Monte Carlo turned left into a private drive, police said.

According to witnesses, Terrell "laid his motorcycle down on its side, and it slid into the Monte Carlo," police said.

Terrell, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 21-year-old man driving the car and his two passengers were not injured.

No charges have been filed, and the investigation continues, Bassham said.
