Rep. Emanuel Cleaver wants to honor Vietnam-era veterans and their families — and he’s asking for help to find the honorees.
Cleaver plans a ceremony to honor Vietnam vets at the Truman Library on Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. He told reporters today that national figures — and, perhaps, several 60s performers — will attend.
His office wants to hear from veterans and their families so they can be formally recognized. Forms are available at www.house.gov/cleaver or help can be found at Cleaver’s office in Independence or by calling 816-833-4545.
Cleaver, who was disqualified from military service during the Vietnam period because of a knee injury, said the recognition ceremony is long overdue.
“We owe them so much, and they have asked for so little,” he said.
