Road work will squeeze traffic on U.S. 69 in Overland Park

Stay away. Stay far away.

That’s the best advice for drivers who want to use U.S. 69 in Overland Park for the next few days, starting tonight.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m. today, U.S. 69 will be down to one lane in both directions from College Boulevard to Blue Valley Parkway. The closure will last around the clock every day until 5:30 Friday morning.

It gets worse from there.

The ramps to and from southbound 69 at 95th Street in Overland Park are supposed to be closed starting at 7 tomorrow morning until late September.

And there’s even more road work to avoid.

Southbound 69 will be reduced to one lane from 87th Street to 103rd Street from 9 a.m. tomorrow until 3:30 p.m. so barriers can be relocated.

The northbound side will have various lane closures from College Boulevard to I-35 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

As of 5 p.m. today, KDOT said all this work is scheduled despite the weather forecast. But bad weather could give drivers a temporary reprieve.

All of this work is courtesy of two project that are under way at the same time, including the $82 million project to widen 69 to three lanes in each direction.
