St. Louis woman sentenced in poisoning death of son, 4

ST. LOUIS | A St. Louis woman convicted of poisoning her two children, one of them fatally, will serve the rest of her life in prison.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Judy Pickens, 38, was sentenced Thursday to two life terms plus 157 years by St. Louis Circuit Judge John F. Garvey.

Pickens had maintained her innocence. She was convicted in June of second-degree murder, first-degree assault and other charges.

Pickens' 4-year-old son, Mikal Pickens, died at a St. Louis hospital. Prosecutors said the boy had been injected with ground-up blood pressure pills.

Her 5-year-old daughter recovered after hospital staff grew suspicious and kept the mother and child apart.
