Wichita man found by river last week identified

WICHITA — Police have identified the man who was found dead next to the Arkansas River in Chappin Park last Friday morning.

Authorities are still trying to determine why Mitchell Hanafin, 31, of Wichita died.

A man who went down to the Arkansas River to fish found Hanafin's body at about 6:40 a.m. next to the river in the 3700 block of South Hydraulic, police have said.

He appeared to have been there for a day or two, Lt. Ken Landwehr said.
