Teller injured during bank robbery in southwest Wichita

WICHITA — A teller was injured this afternoon during a robbery at a southwest Wichita bank. A single gunshot was fired during the holdup.

Wichita police Lt. Guy Schroeder said it wasn't immediately clear whether the male teller was grazed by the bullet wound or was struck in the head by a gun used by one of the bandits.

"The injury is minor," he said.

The holdup occurred about 1:45 p.m. when three men wearing gloves, masks and gray sweat suits entered the UMB Bank branch at 2333 S. West St. and demanded money.

Schroeder said the gun discharged when the employee was bumped — apparently by one of the bandits. He said the three robbers left the scene in a white minivan.

Schroeder said FBI agents were at the scene checking video cameras inside and outside the bank.
