Shares in regional bank stocks barreled higher Friday as the economy showed fresh signs of recovering.
UMB Financial led the way, gaining $2.02 a share. Commerce Bancshares gained $1.24, and Capitol Federal Financial added 49 cents.
Other financial services companies, including Kansas City Life, NASB, and Waddell & Reed, finished higher.
Wall Street also finished the week on positive ground after the government said the nation’s unemployment rate unexpectedly fell in July for the first time in 15 months and that employers cut fewer jobs.
