Wellington father charged in infant's injuries

A 20-year-old Wellington man faces two charges related to injuries suffered by his 2-month-old daughter.

Joshua Lee Morton has been charged with one count of child abuse and one count of aggravated child endangerment in Sumner County District Court in Wellington. He was booked into jail on a $50,000 bond.

The infant was brought to Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus on Saturday for treatment, and Wichita police were alerted.

They in turn notified Wellington police. The child was diagnosed with a skull fracture and other injuries and was placed in protective custody, authorities have said.

Wellington Police Chief Tracy Heath said the child's condition has improved to the point that she may be released from the hospital on Friday.

Her 15-month-old brother has been removed from the home and placed in protective custody as well, Heath said.

The case remains under investigation, Heath said, but no further arrests have been made.
