Deputy County Manager Hannes Zacharias has been named Johnson County’s new county manager.
The Johnson County Commission voted 6-1 to appoint Zacharias to replace former county manager Mike Press, who ended a 32-year career in county government at the end of May.
Under the county’s home rule charter, the county manager is county government’s chief executive officer responsible for the day-to-day functions of this local government, which had a budget last year of $736 million.
The selection of the new manager ends a seven-month search by commissioners for a successor to Press.
Johnson County government employs more than 3,600 people in five agencies and 33 departments.
The leader of the commission is Annabeth Surbaugh of Overland Park.
