JOPLIN, Mo. | A former Jasper County sheriff's deputy will be sentenced in October on charges resulting from an armed showdown with Joplin police.
Milton Ganz pleaded guilty recently to unlawful use of a weapon. A charge of felony assault on a law enforcement officer was dropped.
The incident began in August of last year when Joplin police responded to a domestic disturbance call.
Prosecutors said Ganz put a loaded .357-caliber revolver to his head, then refused orders to put the gun down. He was shot and wounded after pointing the gun at one of the officers.
