Teen hit by lightning remains in fair condition

The 14-year-old boy who was struck by lightning outside his grandparents' house in Medicine Lodge Monday afternoon remains in fair condition at a Wichita hospital, officials said.

The strike happened shortly after 5 p.m. in the 400 block of Spring Street as the youth was playing in the street in the rain, authorities have said. He was taken to Medicine Lodge Hospital, then airlifted to Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

He arrived in critical condition but was later upgraded, hospital officials said.
