Two Kansas City police officers were injured in a collision at East 53rd Street and Cleveland Avenue late Wednesday.
The accident happened as the officers were responding to a call with their car's lights and sirens on, driving northbound on Cleveland Avenue around 10:10 p.m., said Sgt. Mike Glass of the Kansas City Police Department.
When the officers stopped at an intersection to turn east onto 53rd Street, an sport utility vehicle that had been following closely behind rear-ended the police car, Glass said. The police car spun out of control and struck the front of a duplex.
One officer had to be extricated from the vehicle and was seriously injured. The other officer suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to a hospital.
