Royals right fielder José Guillen left Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels in the second inning because of what club officials termed “sudden right leg pain.” He was then taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.
Guillen played the first two innings in the field but exited prior to his scheduled at-bat in the bottom of the second. Ryan Freel replaced Guillen as a pinch-hitter and in right field.
Guillen has battled a sore right groin for weeks and previously said it affected his running.
