Second victim dies in southeast Kansas chase crash

COLUMBUS, Kan. | A collision involving a law enforcement chase in southeast Kansas last week has now taken a second life.

The coroner in Jasper County, Mo., says 41-year-old Teresa Kemp of Pittsburg died Wednesday at a Joplin hospital. Her 13-year-old daughter, Taylor Kemp, died at the scene of the crash July 16.

Teresa Kemp was a teacher in the southeast Kansas town of Riverton. She and her daughter were traveling on U.S. 69 south of Pittsburg when their vehicle was hit by a car being chased by Cherokee County deputies.

The driver of the fleeing vehicle, 22-year-old Kaston Hudgins of Galena, has been charged in Missouri with taking his girlfriend's car without her permission. Charges are pending in Cherokee County.
