Brace yourself for some really difficult driving in Johnson County starting this weekend.
It all begins at 10 tonight when southbound U.S. 69 in central Overland Park will shut down all weekend between Interstates 35 and 435. It won't reopen until 5 a.m. Monday.
And it doesn't stop there.
The southbound side of the highway will be down to one lane for 10 days starting at 5 a.m. Monday and won't fully reopen to two lanes until July 29. Expect major delays.
But work on 69 isn't limited to north of I-435.
More construction will narrow the northbound side to one lane from 135th Street to College Boulevard starting at 7 tonight and lasting through the weekend.
Possible driving alternatives include using I-35 or possible north-south routes in Overland Park such as Metcalf Avenue or Quivira Road.
