Baby sitter convicted of sex crimes

A Marion County jury has convicted a Hillsboro man of two sex crimes while he was baby-sitting a 5-year-old girl in 2006.

Randy Herbel was convicted of one count of rape and one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child Wednesday in Marion County District Court, said Ashley Anstaett, a spokeswoman for the Attorney General's Office.

The acts occurred on or about Aug. 1 or 2, 2006, in Hillsboro, while Herbel, then 40, was baby-sitting the child.

Sentencing is set for Sept. 9. The potential sentence for each count is life without possibility of parole until 25 years, as well as lifetime registration as a sex offender.
