Bullet narrowly misses two sleeping boys

Two young boys escaped harm early this morning after someone fired toward their bedroom while they were sleeping, police said.

The incident happened at 2:40 a.m. in the 1200 block of North Harding, when a 43-year-old man at the house heard someone ring the front doorbell and then knock.

As he approached the door, he heard three gunshots outside next to another part of the house, police said.

When he went to check on his two sons in their bedroom, he discovered a bullet had lodged in the bedroom closet. The boys, ages 7 and 11, were asleep and unharmed.

Investigators are not sure whether the bullet was fired from a passing car or by someone who walked up to the house.
