Wichita police release photos of suspect linked to two crimes

WICHITA — Wichita police today released two images from security cameras, hoping members of the public can identify a man suspected in two recent store robberies.

An armed man tried to rob the Popeye's Fried Chicken at 1211 N. Broadway on the night of July 7, and the Dollar General store at 1919 E. Pawnee was robbed on Sunday.

"We think the same individual may be responsible" for both incidents, Capt. Darrell Haynes said.

An armed man tried to rob the Popeye's at about 9:23 p.m. on July 7, but left without money. In the second incident, Haynes said, a man went into the Dollar General and hid for several hours until closing time.

He then put on a mask and threatened employees with a gun before leaving with cash.

In both cases, Haynes said, the suspect is described as a black man in his mid-20s, about 5 feet 9 and 170 pounds. He has a light to medium complexion.

Anyone with information about these two incidents should call the robbery section of the police department at 316-268-4177 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.

Tips to Crime Stoppers can be sent by text message as well. Type CRIMES (274637), then TIP217 plus the message.
