A 17-year-old Wichita boy remains in critical condition today after being injured while riding a zip line in Butler County on Sunday, authorities said.
Three teens had established a zip line over the Walnut River south of the Frontier Refinery just south of El Dorado, Butler County Sheriff Craig Murphy said Monday.
A zip line is a cable stretched between points of different elevations, a pulley and a bar or harness for the rider to use.
Murphy said the pulley broke as one of the teens was riding the zip shortly before 4 p.m., and he fell 15 to 20 feet onto his back.
A spokesman for Wesley Medical Center said the boy has lost feeling from the chest down.
