Kansas infant dies after being left in car

HAYS, Kan. | Hays police are investigating the death of an infant child who was left inside a locked car.

Assistant Police Chief Philip Hartsfield says the infant was found dead Thursday about 3:20 p.m. Hartsfield says police believe the baby was left inside the car sometime before 8:00 a.m.

Temperatures in Hays Thursday were in excess of 90 degrees.

No one has been arrested. Hartsfield says the death appears to be a tragic accident.

The investigation is continuing. Hartsfield says officers are working with the county attorney to determine what charges, if any, would be filed.
