Woman admits stealing from southeast Kansas church

FRONTENAC, Kan. | A business manager has pleaded guilty to embezzling thousands of dollars from the church where she worked.

U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch says 43-year-old Lanora Michelle Spigarelli of Frontenac pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of mail fraud.

She admitted embezzling $74,027 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac between January 2006 and September 2007.

The mail fraud charge was filed because Spigarelli put the stolen money in the mail to pay her bills.

Sentencing is set for Oct. 5. She faces a maximum fine of 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.
