KC man charged with eight felonies in assault and rape case

Jackson County prosecutors today charged a 50-year-old man with eight felonies after he allegedly beat, raped and sodomized his former girlfriend.

David A. Gregory of Kansas City was charged with three counts of forcible rape, two counts of forcible sodomy, two counts of domestic assault and one count of felonious restraint. He remained in jail today in lieu of a $100,000 cash-only bond.

The incident began about 9 p.m. Friday when the 40-year-old victim went to the home in the 5600 block of East 28th Terrace that she used to share with Gregory to get some personal belongings. The victim said she had broken up with Gregory four days prior and was surprised to find Gregory at home. He allegedly refused to let her leave and began yelling at her. He then allegedly repeatedly punched her. The beatings allegedly continued on and off throughout the night. Gregory also allegedly forced her to perform sex acts and raped her.

She suffered “severe” face injuries, police said. Her left eye was swollen shut and the left side of her face had ballooned about 2 inches from swelling. Her right eye was heavily bruised and nearly swollen shut.

The woman gained her freedom Saturday morning after she allegedly told Gregory that relatives would be looking for her and she would tell police that someone else had beaten her, according to police reports.
