Pharmacist changes plea in Kansas painkiller case

WICHITA | A Wichita pharmacist has pleaded guilty to two counts of illegally distributing painkillers.

Constance King wiped her eyes Monday after entering her plea before U.S. District Judge Monti Belot. Her sentencing was set for Sept. 14.

The 47-year-old King had faced seven counts in connection with the case against Dr. Lawrence Simons, of Goddard. The remaining charges would be dropped in a plea deal with prosecutors.

Defense attorney John Rapp told the judge his client knew there was not a physician-patient relationship when she distributed Oxycontin and Hydrocodone.

Simons is one of the doctors who worked at the clinic of Dr. Stephen Schneider in Haysville. In an unrelated case, Schneider is charged with unlawfully prescribing drugs leading to 59 deaths.
