14 contractors bid to build Chiefs facility in St. Joseph

ST. JOSEPH | Fourteen contractors have submitted bids to build the Kansas City Chiefs indoor practice facility at Missouri Western State University.

The low bid submitted Tuesday was for $9.3 million from Crossland Construction, based in Columbus, Kan. Buildings costs have been estimated at $11.7 million.

The Chiefs have not yet signed a deal to move their summer training camp from River Falls, Wis., to St. Joseph. But Dave Williams, athletic director at Western, said the talks are "coming along fine," although he wouldn't say when an agreement might be reached.

Western officials will make a recommendation to the university's governing board at its meeting June 25.
