Vic Koenning is returning to Manhattan.
Koennning, Clemson’s defensive coordinator, has been named Kansas State assistant head coach and co-defensive coordinator.
Koenning was a defensive end on the Wildcats’ first bowl team in 1982. He has served as an assistant at Memphis and Troy and was Wyoming’s head coach from 2000-2002.
He made his mark at Clemson when he arrived for the 2005 season. Each of his first three defenses finished in the top 25 in scoring, rushing, total and pass efficiency defense each season. That had happened twice in the program’s history before his arrival.

Koenning, who will oversee the secondary, will share coordinator’s duties with Chris Cosh, who spent the last three years at Maryland after serving as the Wildcats’ linebackers coaches in 2004 and 2005.
Two other coaches named by Bill Snyder: special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers and defensive ends coach Joe Bob Clements.
