Kobach won't seek 2nd term to lead Kansas GOP

TOPEKA | Kansas Republican Party Chairman Kris Kobach says he won't run for a second two-year term and expects to seek public office in 2010.

Kobach said in a news release Monday that he has accomplished what he set out to do — improve operations within the Kansas GOP and lay the groundwork for Republican candidates planning to run for office in 2010.

That includes Kobach, who said "It is highly likely that I will be running for elected office myself in 2010." He noted that his decision not to seek a second term at the helm of the party is in keeping with Kansas Republicans tradition of not being led by an office-seeker.

Kobach did not specify what office he was considering running for. In 2004 he lost to Democrat Dennis Moore for the 3rd Congressional District seat.
